FRISC— Colorado's Office of Behavioral Health says Frisco and Montrose will be getting new mental health clinics with funding gathered through taxes on pot sales.
The Summit Daily reports Gov. John Hickenlooper passed a bill in May that would set aside marijuana tax dollars to improve the state's mental health system and decrease the number of people with mental health issues kept in jails before they charged with a crime.
The funds were initially allocated for creating and operating a crisis-stabilization unit in Montrose, but Summit County was later awarded half of the funds to set up its own crisis unit. The facilities will allow people to calm down and get support during a mental health episode. Officials expected the Frisco unit will be ready by next spring and Montrose center is currently under construction.
